Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Knights of the Mediterranean, developed by World's Edge, expands the iconic strategy game with new content tailored for historical and economic gameplay enthusiasts. This expansion introduces the Italy and Malta Civilizations, offering unique units, economic mechanics, and military strategies. The standout feature is the debut of Historical Maps, which reimagine pivotal European conflicts with randomized layouts and unique objectives, adding layers of replayability.

Italy and Malta Civilizations

The Italy Civilization unites merchant republics and duchies to create a booming economy powered by unique Settlers and free-building Architects. Players can maximize profits with the Lombard mechanic or bolster their armies with Papal soldiers from the towering Basilica. The Malta Civilization excels in defense, leveraging Fixed Guns, Commandery logistics, and Gunpowder Depots for strategic depth. Units like Fire Throwers and Order Galleys bring distinctive combat options both on land and at sea.

Tycoon Game Mode

The Tycoon mode shifts focus from military dominance to economic growth, offering a more relaxed, strategy-driven experience. Players refine their resource management and economic strategies without the intensity of direct conflict, making it a fresh way to engage with the game. Skills developed here can translate into competitive or cooperative matches in other modes.

Historical Maps

This expansion introduces eight Historical Maps, a new twist on Random Maps inspired by key European conflicts like the Great Turkish War and the Napoleonic Wars. Each map features unique objectives tied to its historical context, providing endless replayability. Notably, the Thirty Years’ War map includes an exclusive Diplomacy Mode for multiplayer scenarios, encouraging strategic alliances and betrayals.
