Going Medieval is a colony-building simulation game developed by Foxy Voxel. Set in a post-calamity world where civilization has been ravaged by plague, the game challenges players to help a group of survivors rebuild society from the ashes. The strongest differentiator of Going Medieval is its 3D terrain manipulation, allowing players to construct sprawling forts and intricate underground caverns. The game focuses on crafting a thriving settlement while defending against bandits and wild animals, with each settler being a unique character with their own skills and personality traits, such as Grimbold, the Swineherd.

3D Terrain Tools

Going Medieval features advanced 3D terrain tools that enable players to create detailed and personalized strongholds. These tools allow for the construction of multi-storey forts and winding underground caverns. Players can terraform the environment, manipulating earth and water for strategic purposes or creative design. The flexibility of the terrain system provides a wide range of options for players to tailor their settlements to their preferences, whether they aim for a humble village or a baronial estate.

Unique Settlers and Skills

Every settler in Going Medieval is distinct, possessing individual skills and personality traits that affect their roles within the community. For instance, Grimbold, known for his exceptional Animal Handling, is a Savage character ideal for brawling. Settlers have diverse needs, including clothing preferences and religious beliefs, which players must satisfy to ensure their happiness and productivity. As settlers engage in activities like hunting and combat, they can develop their skills further, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the settlement.

Defensive Structures and Strategy

In the face of relentless raider attacks, Going Medieval requires players to build impenetrable defenses and set traps to protect their settlements. The game incorporates medieval technology research and crafting, allowing players to arm their settlers and command them in strategic battles. By tailoring defense strategies to the skills of individual villagers, players can optimize their combat effectiveness. This strategic depth, combined with the ability to modify the game through modding tools, provides a robust framework for creative and tactical gameplay.
