Last Day of June, developed by Ovosonico, is an interactive narrative game that tells a poignant story of love, loss, and second chances. Inspired by Steven Wilson’s song "Drive Home," the game follows Carl as he attempts to alter the events leading to a tragic accident that claimed the life of his beloved June. With a painterly art style and a focus on emotional storytelling, this game stands out as a deeply personal journey.

Time-Travel Mechanics Through Paintings

The game’s central mechanic involves Carl revisiting key moments of June’s final day by interacting with her paintings. Players solve sequence-based puzzles to rewrite the chain of events, with each decision leading to new outcomes and unforeseen consequences. These time-travel elements encourage experimentation, blending narrative depth with gameplay.

Painterly Visual Style and Emotional Themes

Last Day of June employs a unique visual presentation, using a hand-painted aesthetic to create a world that feels both intimate and dreamlike. This art direction underscores the emotional weight of the story, where themes of grief, love, and hope are explored without traditional dialogue, relying instead on visual storytelling.

Collaborative Creative Vision

This project brings together talents like director Massimo Guarini and animator Jess Cope, alongside Steven Wilson’s haunting musical influence. Their collaboration results in a holistic experience where music, art, and narrative intertwine to evoke empathy and reflection.
