South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game by Compulsion Games, set in the hauntingly atmospheric American Deep South. You play as Hazel, a newly anointed Weaver—a magical mender of broken spirits and bonds—tasked with confronting mythical creatures and unearthing her family’s tangled past. In the decayed county of Prospero, Hazel must navigate a Southern Gothic world shaped by folklore, memory, and personal legacy.

Weaving Magic and Combating Haints

As a Weaver, Hazel wields unique magical abilities to restore spirits and battle destructive entities known as Haints. These encounters blend combat with the puzzle-like mechanics of weaving magic, allowing players to mend the Grand Tapestry that holds the world together. Each mythical creature carries its own trauma, challenging Hazel to uncover their stories and resolve their unrest.

The Torn County of Prospero

The game’s setting, Prospero, is a richly imagined Southern locale ravaged by a hurricane and steeped in folklore. Players will explore its lush yet decayed environments, meeting an array of locals whose lives intertwine with Hazel’s journey. The county serves as both a battleground and a narrative tapestry, with its history and culture woven into every region.

A Southern Gothic Tale of Legacy

At its core, South of Midnight is a modern folktale about family, identity, and the weight of history. Hazel’s journey to rescue her mother and safeguard her hometown is as much about unraveling her own past as it is about mending the present. The game’s storytelling is complemented by a distinctive visual style and a music score inspired by the traditions of the Deep South.
