Permafrost is a story-driven open-world survival game developed by SpaceRocket Games. Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth locked in perpetual winter after the moon shattered, players take on the role of a “Rook,” an engineer drawn into this frozen wasteland by a mysterious radio signal. The strongest differentiator is the ever-present cold itself, which shapes every aspect of survival, from frostbite to storms, making preparation and timing essential.

The Cold as a Constant Threat

In Permafrost, the cold is not just environmental but a dynamic adversary. Frostbite, blizzards, and creeping chill influence every decision, making warmth and shelter vital for survival. Players must manage their exposure carefully, timing journeys between safe havens and braving faction-controlled territories. This survival mechanic transforms the frozen landscape into a relentless challenge that demands strategic planning.

Exploration-Gated Progression

Progression in Permafrost is tied to exploration and adaptation. Players restore abandoned shelters, repair machinery, and reclaim lost technologies to push deeper into the frozen wilderness. This system emphasizes resourcefulness and discovery, rewarding players who take risks to venture into uncharted territories while coping with the scarcity of supplies.

Your Dog as a Vital Companion

A rescued dog becomes a crucial partner in this desolate world. The animal scouts ahead, alerts players to danger, carries supplies, and provides emotional support amidst the isolation. This bond adds a layer of symbiosis to the gameplay, turning your survival journey into a shared struggle against the cold and silence.
